Daniel Taub Fights Divisiveness With Diplomacy in the UK

Having grown up in the United Kingdom Danel Taub studied at both Oxford and Harvard universities, and in 1989 he decided to move to Israel and serve as a medic for the Israel Defense Forces. After establishing himself within military circles Taub was able to secure a position as a speechwriter for the president and was brought into the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1991.

As an expert in international law his talents brought him to serve in many diplomatic, political, and legal posts, and by 2011 Taub was appointed Ambassador to the Court of St. James. With such strong roots in the UK, Daniel felt privileged to be in a position of diplomacy between two countries that have both served as home. With resolute solidarity he vowed to strengthen the ties between the two regions, and deepen the relationship of cooperation for the future. However, a small minority still exists in Britain that would choose exclusionary policies over the diplomacy Daniel envisions.

In open defiance of Bradford MP George Galloway’s hate filled rhetoric, Daniel Taub paid a visit to the “Israel free zone” in response to the inflammatory comments Galloway had made.

In a speech that is currently being investigated by British police Galloway supported that his constituency should remain an “Israel free zone”, and called for the exclusion of any Israeli contributions to the Commonwealth.

Barring goods, services, academic contributions, and even tourists from Israel, Galloway indiscriminately condemned the entire populace of what he deems an “illegal, barbarous, savage state.”

The public outcry resulted in the extension of formal invitations from within the community to Ambassador Taub and served to clearly rebuke the bigoted sentiment Galloway portrayed.

In an effort to inclusively co-operate, meetings were scheduled between David Taub and prominent religious leaders, counselors, and members of the faith to model the importance of setting aside religious differences for the sake of diplomacy.

Although the visit was short-lived Taub was still able to gain the overwhelming sense that the real views shared by the English people were not a reflection of Galloway’s exclusionary vision, and that the issue goes far beyond the ongoing Sunni and Shia conflict. Finding the path to the future is an issue of recognizing the past for what it is, leaving it there, and reconnecting with others to build a future free from its regressive ideologies.

Daniel Taub’s extensive experience with peaceful negotiations will no doubt prove to serve the region better than divisive rhetoric, but that experience has already served in agreements like those between Israel and Palestine during the Culture of Peace negotiations.

He also served in negotiations between Israel and Syria, and it is this type of dedication to peace that is necessary to bring humanity to a future of progress through unity.
